OGSLP helps students and parents learn about financial aid for higher education expenses. Check out the Paying for College section at OGSLP.org to learn about grants, scholarships and federal student loans. Use OGSLP's loan calculator to estimate the cost of repaying an education loan. (This cool tool can help you estimate payments for car loans, mortgages or other consumer loans, too!)
If you’re in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade, you may be eligible to receive free money for college through the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program. More information is available at OKPromise.org and in the program flyer (PDF).
The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal student financial aid including grants, work-study and student loans. It’s important to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan. 1 of your senior year of high school and each year you need financial aid.
The best way to complete the FAFSA is online! We recommend you use FAFSA on the Web at FAFSA.gov, because applications are processed quickly; errors are identified right away; and online instructions are provided for each question. Applicants can even chat online with a customer service representative, so help is available in real-time. Learn more by calling 800.4.FED.AID or visiting FAFSA.gov.
Never pay to complete the FAFSA! Remember, the first “F” in FAFSA stands for free. All the help you need is available at no cost, so be wary of any organization that requires you to pay to fill out the FAFSA.
Avoid scholarship scams! A legitimate organization only needs to know about your hobbies, past grades or other demographic information, not your bank account or credit card number. Also, scholarship search firms can’t "guarantee" scholarships or complete the application process for you.
