We know a college degree offers a competitive advantage in the marketplace and provides the skills and knowledge valued by employers in business, government and organizations. Whether you're a campus or community partner, it's likely some of the youth and adults you serve have no doubt about going to college or returning to college. Their future career path may be undecided, but it’s a given they’ll complete higher education. On the flip side, you probably work with folks who don’t think they can go to school for a variety of reasons, folks who are on the fence about attending and even some folks who may be 100% against education after high school. Understanding where they're coming from can help you support them as they develop plans for the future.
UCanGo2 aims to help you create a college-going culture by providing practical, easy to understand college planning information. We believe that no matter the circumstances—rich or poor, straight As or all Cs, first generation or third generation college student, rural or urban—any student of any age with determination and drive can attend a university, college or technical school and be well on the way to a solid career with real earning potential.
Do you work with middle school or high school students? Encourage them to set up an account at OkCollegeStart.org to take advantage of free college planning information and resources. Students can explore colleges and careers, take practice ACT and SAT exams and submit admission applications and transcripts online!
The Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan is a smart, tax-advantaged way for families to save for a child's higher education costs. The program offers great tax advantages including an Oklahoma tax deduction, a choice of investment options and the flexibility to use the savings at thousands of higher education institutions in the United States and abroad. For more information, direct students and parents to call 877.OK.4.SAVING (toll-free) or visit Ok4Saving.org.
Higher education really isn't just for kids. Adults can also increase their earning potential and job security by completing a degree. Jobs, family and other obligations can make it difficult to go back to college, but Oklahoma's universities have expanded programs to fit into an adult's busy life. The Reach Higher program is a second chance to finish that degree - while keeping a normal routine, maintaining normal work hours and making time for family. Learn more at ReachHigherOklahoma.org.
